What goes on in the First Grade?
* In 1st grade, the building blocks of reading are established and fine tuned. We begin putting sounds together to form words, words together to form sentences and sentences together to form stories. We take established math skills and begin to expand on these as well. This includes: writing #'s to 100, adding/subtracting, geometry skills, measuring, time and money. 1st Graders also explore what it means to be a good citizen in a class room and within the world. Our science and social studies curriculum focus around units such as famous Americans, plants, animals, simple machines, weather, and matter to name a few.
