Teachers: Mrs. Hemmen and Ms. Mathis What it is... This course is geared toward 9th and 10th grade students who have successfully completed 8th grade math and/or Pre-Algebra. This course does not apply towards college-prep math. Concepts covered... Not only will students review previously learned knowledge, but they will also be introduced to a whole new set of concepts dealing with algebra, statistics, and number sense. These include but are not limited to: evaluating expressions, writing numbers in a variety of forms, solving multi-step equations and inequalities, solving absolute inequalities, using probability and different forms (ex. box and whisker plots), solving and graphing a system of linear equations, performing operations on polynomials, and using the quadratic formula to solve and graph an equation. Expectations and goals... Students should leave this course with a sound base of algebra concepts necessary to succeed in Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-calculus. |
