Third Grade
Mrs. Lois Stuefen
Third Graders are always excited about writing in cursive.
The newest concepts in math are multiplication and division. They also count back change, learn about perfect squares, make and read line and bar graphs, and measure lines to the quarter inch.
In reading third graders study the following genres: biographies, fables, tall tales, mysteries, plays, poetry, historical fiction and nonfiction, fairy tales, and realistic fiction.
In language the third graders learn to write strong sentences. They learn how to substitute more specific words for weaker ones.
Science: At the beginning of the year the students study plants and the necessary elements for plant growth. Following the plant unit is an animal unit on habitats and animals that live in various habitats. The students learn about the six simple machines and about the systems of their body. Much of their science is hands-on experiences or experiments.
Community life and map skills are the focal points in third grade social studies.
Art, music, PE, and library are taught outside of the classroom.
